Factors associated with HIV positivity among mobile HIV counseling and testing clients:In forty two urban and semi-urban towns in Ethiopia
Methods: This Cross sectional quantitative study reviewed and analyzed secondary data of 41,687 MHCT clients (Feb 26, to Aug 23, 2009). SPSS 13.0 has been utilized to analyze the data. Both Bivariate & multivariate logistic regression were carried out. . Result: From the total of 41,687 clients, men account for (60%) and the overall mean age was 27.03 (SD ± 10.34). The overall HIV prevalence was 4.3% (Females - 6.7% and Male - 2.6%). The odd of being HIV positive among female was 2.25 (AOR = 2.25 (95% CI 1.67-2.19). The Age group 30 34 was 4.10 times more at risk of HIV infection than 1519. Commercial sex workers (CSWs) have more than 8.75 times risk of getting infected with HIV than the reference group students. Prevalence among those with history of sexually transmitted illness (STI) was 11.1% and with no history of STI 3.9% [AOR=1.93(95% CI 1.65-2.25)]. Conclusion: Females were more at risk of HIV than men. Those who are married, divorced and widowed were in a much more risk of HIV than those who are single. Being an illiterate and history of STI put a client more at risk for HIV.
