Recruiting sex educators to evaluate innovative training program: Two successful approaches

The key learnings of two recent and challenging randomized control trial recruitment components will be shared. In the first study, high school sex educators were recruited to teach an evidence-based curriclum, and in the second, pairs of out-of-school community workers were recruited to lead an evidence-based program with youth and their parents. The step by step process to get potential participants successfully enrolled in the study began with peaking their interest thru primarily online outlets, gaining initial information from an online interest survey, requiring their attendance at a live informational webinar, connecting by phone, and getting a signed agreement for particpation. Print materials, online outlets, advertising, and conferences were used to spread the word. The relative effectiveness of these strategies will be shared. Different approaches were used to provide additional information to potential participants, such as print a recruitment website, print materials, personal phone calls, direct email communication, live webinars and pre-recorded webinars. The relative effectivness of these strategies will be shared. Specific strategies for recruiting pairs of educators were used.
