The Harvard Prevention Research Center (HPRC) is engaged with the CDC-supported Nutrition and Obesity Policy Research and Evaluation Network (NOPREN) in an initiative to increase healthy beverages in Boston. The HPRC works with the Boston Public Health Commission to evaluate the impact of Boston Mayor Menino's Executive order to remove sugar sweetened beverages from city property and increase access to tap water and other healthier beverages, and also works with the Boston Public Schools to increase tap water access. The HPRC has worked over the past five years to improve afterschool nutrition and physical activity in multiple afterschool settings including the Boston YMCA, Boys and Girls Clubs, and Boston Centers for Youth and Families through their research project, Out of School Nutrition and Physical Activity (OSNAP). These initiatives will be discussed.
