Epa's air community program: Stakeholder engagement throughout the regulatory process

The Office of Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards (OAQPS) is responsible for implementing programs regulating air pollution as described in the Clean Air Act and other legislation. OAQPS is committed to ensuring communities disproportionately impacted by environmental harms and risks and are affected by hazardous substance problems have independent, non-advocacy, technical assistance needed to empower them to meaningfully participate in the rule-making process.

Stakeholder and public engagement in the regulatory process is an important part of operating an open and transparent government. OAQPS is exploring innovative ways to engage more types of stakeholders in their regulatory activities. This presentation will provide an overview of recent efforts by EPA to engage stakeholders in air regulatory activities and will highlight innovative approaches being considered for training community groups about how to play a more active role in the regulatory process.
