Monday, November 4, 2013 : 10:50 a.m. - 11:10 a.m.

Paulette Renault-Caragianes, City of Somerville, Somerville, MA
Shape Up Somerville began as a controlled research trial focused on preventing excess weight gain among early elementary school children from 2002-2005 in partnership with Tufts University's Friedman School of Nutrition. Today Shape Up Somerville is best described as a successful strategic framework promoting increased daily physical activity and healthy eating through policy promulgation and physical infrastructure improvements to reach all segments of the community. This talk will focus on how the City of Somerville was able to successfully transition and expand its program, providing insights and lessons learned regarding dissemination, implementation, and sustainability that can help inform other community-based efforts around the country.
