2013 APHA Infographic Contest – Special Session

Information conveyed in this session pertains to the infographic designed and submitted as part of APHA's National Public Health Week contest. The infographic reflects the NPHW 2013 theme, “Public Health is ROI – Save Lives, Save Money,” and discusses the unique role of state health agencies in providing direct services and in aligning state systems, partners, and resources to improve health outcomes.

Identify at least four (4) types of direct services provided by state health departments; Describe at least three (3) scenarios in which state health departments have occupied an important leadership and/or coordinating role in preventing illnesses, deaths, and disabilities.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I am employed by the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials as a senior public health analyst, whereby I am responsible for policy analysis and programmatic implementation support related to unintentional injuries and injury response, violence prevention, and behavioral health. The focus of my work at ASTHO cuts across multiple disciplines, including chronic disease prevention and evidence-based public health.
