Great journey of participating in the institute of medicine

This presentation describes my trajectory as a health services researcher who casts doubt on the mainstream questions typically formulated in research studies and the routine methodology for addressing research involving ethnic/racial minorities. This presentation argues that the social sciences field needs to explore alternative research paradigms and use atypical research strategies to better investigate novel lines of inquiry. Participation in the Institute of Medicine provides this new paradigm in allowing different disciplines and state of the art methodologies to provide answers with the best current evidence. My presentation has two general aims: to describe types of problems posed by minority scholars for which there is almost no information; and second, to provide recommendations both to trainers and funding agencies on how to address these concerns. As this dynamic generation of researchers enters the field, it is time to rethink old models of training to better fit their needs.
