Utah State Health Care Innovation Model Design – A State Health Plan Incorporating Public Health

The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) State Innovation Model program provides funding to “assist in planning, designing, testing, and supporting evaluation of new health payment and service delivery models.” The goal is to create multi-payer models with a broad mission to raise community health status and reduce long term health risks for all insured beneficiaries with special emphasis on Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and reduce costs. This presentation will discuss the Utah Innovation Plan, which incorporates aims (or goals) in the areas of health information, health workforce, payment reform, prevention and wellness and quality and patient safety.

Discuss the design of Utah's state innovation plan, which will test whether the aims or goals of the plan’s Vision of “better health, better quality and lower cost” of health care for all Utahns can be demonstrated.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: Dr. Wilkins is the co-investigator for the Utah State Innovation Model (SIM) Testing Grant. She served as a fellow at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation and is currently responsible as co-investigator for the Utah SIMproject for ensuring that aims and drivers are aligned across work groups. These aims will be the foundation for the Utah State Health Care Innovations Plan. She is also responsible for developing the evaluation components of the grant project.
