Global Toll of Preterm Birth and Birth Defects- Strengthening Care and Prevention

Premature birth and birth defects affect 21 million babies worldwide. In this presentation, I will present global data on preterm birth and birth defects and will provide an overview of March of Dimes initiatives and programs. Data presented in this presentation will be based on 1) Born Too Soon: The Global Action Report on Preterm Birth- a report recently published by March of Dimes, The Partnership for Maternal Newborn & Child Health, Save the Children and 2) March of Dimes Global Report on Birth Defects.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I am Director of Global Health Programs at the March of Dimes Foundation and responsible for promoting maternal and child health initiatives globally and supporting programs for prevention of adverse birth outcomes in low and middle-income countries. I oversee March of Dimes maternal and child health programs in Lebanon, Philippines and China. For over 20 years, I have worked extensively in public health, healthcare management, quality improvement and nursing education.
