Innovative Approaches to Global Maternal and Child Health
Tuesday, November 5, 2013: 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
This session will provide a cross cultural perspective on social support for pregnant women and teens and examine outcomes related to health beliefs and practices. In addition, the effectiveness of MCH interventions such as literacy programs and vaccination will be presented. Participants will also learn about a variety of evaluation and research methodologies. Discussion will focus on cultural factors in MCH health and illness and appropriate methods of examining outcomes for different interventions.
Session Objectives: Assess the contributions of social support and literacy to health outcomes for mothers and children.
Compare different types of evaluation methodologies for MCH interventions.
Evaluate the effectiveness of different levels of MCH interventions (prenatal support, vaccinations, literacy) on health.
