This session is focused on the nutrition and healthy eating aspect of aging. In this session: the first study describes preliminary results from an innovative virtual supermarket program in Baltimore; The second study reviews websites for food safety information; The third study investigates a multi-session health promotion intervention targeting public housing developments in NYC. The fourth study examines older American workers’ nutrient intake status and the last study reports a mixed-method study of food-related environmental supports and challenges for seniors in a large retirement community in Florida.
Session Objectives: To evaluate an innovative online model of providing access to healthy and affordable groceries at senior residential developments. To assess the availability of food safety formation for the elderly on the Internet. To evaluate a multi-session health promotion intervention in older public housing residents. To describe US older worker’s nutrient intake and recommendation compliance. To identify food-related environmental supports and challenges for seniors in a large retirement community.
