Tuesday, November 5, 2013 : 8:30 AM - 8:35 AM

Suzanne Christopher, PhD , Health & Human Development, Montana State University, Bozeman, MT
Lisa Dorothy Moore, DrPH , Health Education, HHS 326, San Francisco State University, San Francisco, CA
The Spirit of 1848 progressive pedagogy session "Progressive Pedagogy: Climate Change, Sustainability and Health Equity" will critically examine teaching about links between global climate change, sustainable (or non-sustainable) economies and ecologies and health equity. We will have speakers who use pedagogies both outside and inside academic settings and across the spectrum of social and economic groups. Global and local perspectives will be addressed. Since local action produces global change as well as the reverse, our speakers will be promoting the critical thinking and actions that transform that binary.

Learning Areas:
Advocacy for health and health education
Public health or related education
Systems thinking models (conceptual and theoretical models), applications related to public health

Learning Objectives:
Describe different pedagogies that examine climate change, activism and health equity. Analyze how one teaches theories, systems and practices of sustainability

Keywords: Advocacy, Public Health Curricula
