Finding and evaluating funding opportunities in public health research

Saturday, November 2, 2013 : 9:10 AM - 9:40 AM

Jennifer Wisdom, PhD MPH , Office of the Vice President for Research, George Washington University, Washington DC, DC
How do public health researchers know where to submit proposals? How do they know which funders are most likely to fund their type of research? After providing an overview of search engines for finding funding sources, the presenter will review the most common public health funding sources and provide guidance on how to evaluate the funding sources for their likelihood of funding proposals on specific topics, with certain methodologies, or even with specific populations! Then, the presenter will review funders' requests for applications, program, and funding announcements to walk through how to identify key aspects of the funding opportunities that are most relevant to their research. Attendees will leave this session with skills and knowledge to identify public health funding opportunities and make decisions regarding where to submit their public health research proposals.

Learning Areas:
Public health or related research
