Concerned communities & the environmental health system

As an active environmental justice advocate, Steve helps local groups with environmental concerns to access the public health system. Despite the number of years between working on Love Canal and today, serious issues remain. Steve will discuss the community described above, along with their attempts to connect with their state laboratory, and offer suggestions for improving the environmental health system to ensure better access to public health laboratories.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I have been the Science Director at CHEJ for over 30 years. In this capacity, I have directed CHEJ’s scientific and technical assistance efforts to communities. My primary work involves translating technical jargon into everyday language and helping people understand the role of science and technical information in local community efforts. A key portion of this work involves reviewing and interpreting laboratory test results and helping community leaders understand what the results mean.
