National conversation on public health and chemical exposures: Recommendations for public engagement in chemical assessment and management and case examples from the children's environmental health network

Addressing Public Health and Chemical Exposures: An Action Agenda calls for an increased emphasis on preventing harmful chemical exposures, reforming outdated and ineffective policies, promoting the health of children and other vulnerable populations, and improving our ability to make or engage in difficult decisions, often in the face of uncertainty. The vision for the Action Agenda is that it identifies clear and achievable actions that can be taken within the areas of prevention, monitoring, science, communities, public engagement, education/training, and emergencies. This effort continues to focus on chemicals that are used and managed in ways that are safe and healthy for all people. Many of the recommendations from the Action Agenda are focused on public participation and stakeholder involvement. The process that resulted in the creation of the Action Agenda involved hundreds of stakeholders from communities, government, industry, academia, health care, and non-profits. This presentation will highlight the core recommendations and provide case examples from the Children's Environmental Health Network.
