Tuesday, November 5, 2013 : 3:10 PM - 3:30 PM

Kathi Randall, RNC, MS, NNP-BC , gRN NICU consulting, Moreno Valley, CA
Most practicing nurses are unaware of the body of evidence that links environmental health (EH) issues to chronic diseases and other health impacts. Opportunities to engage practicing bedside nurses in advocacy in their work place, their communities, local and national government related to EH issues abound. The Practice Work Group primarily focuses on activities to introduce working nurses to the concepts of environmental health through presentations and continuing education webinars. There is also great need to educate and engage nurse leaders in hospitals and other health care facilities to champion EH issues and the Practice work group is now looking at Magnet status as an untapped route for approaching EH issues and quality of care in hospitals.
