Newtown Shootings: A Parent’s Perspective

The presenter, the parent of a second grader at the school, will discuss the events of December 14, 2012 as she experienced them. She will also discuss the impact on the community and the school, and talk about the support provided to people directly impacted by the tragedy.

Identify the strengths and limitations of the initial response. Delineate public and private support provided to students and families that was particularly helpful, lacking or even damaging in the days and months that followed.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I am the parent of a child who attends Sandy Hook and was present on 12/14/12 when the incident occurred. I am also a second year student pursuing and MPH at the Yale School of Public Health and I am focusing my research on violence prevention.
