A Framework Convention on Global Health: An Overview, Key Challenges, and Your Role

A Framework Convention on Global Health (FCGH) would be a global health treaty grounded in the right to health and aimed at closing global health inequities. It would ensure universal coverage of the conditions required for good health, including universal health coverage, public health measures, and broader determinants of health, through standard-setting and national and international financing. The treaty would raise the priority of health in other sectors, strengthen the ability of health advocates to claim the right to health, and establish a robust regime of accountability and compliance. It would further elucidate and update the right to health for the 21st century. Key challenges span from ensuring the treaty's relevance across diverse country circumstances to ensuring accountability, building political support, and ensuring a process of developing the treaty that will contribute to the efforts of local right to health campaigners. A newly developed FCGH network will engage all interested individuals and organizations to further explore, help develop the content of, and advocate for an FCGH.
