Monday, November 4, 2013 : 9:00 AM - 9:15 AM

Elvira Beracochea, MD, MPH , President and CEO, MIDEGO, Fairfax, VA
Global impact is usually thought of as something that projects, organizations, countries and donors can achieve but not something one individual can achieve. In fact, global impact is the result of sum of the impact each person makes every day, by design or by default. We, international health professionals, will make a bigger impact in improving global health if each of us makes a bigger impact. Becoming more effective at making the most impact each of us can make is the responsibility of every global or international health professional. This presentation will show how one person can make a bigger difference by thinking globally and acting locally in three simple and impactful steps. Setting your day right to make the biggest impact is the first step, deciding on what high-impact actions to take and avoiding distractions the diminish your professional impact is the second and finally, making personal accountability a daily activity is the third step. The presentation will show how to put these three simple yet not easy steps into practice and also offer ways to measure your individual impact on a quarterly and annual basis, how to use your impact to advance faster in your career and make an even bigger impact.
