Biographical Sketch:
Mort Soroka, Ph.D. Dr. Mort Soroka is a professor of public health at the State College of Optometry where he teaches courses in health care policy and delivery. He is also the director of the Center for Vision Care Policy, State University of New York, an academic health policy research unit of the College. Among his committee and administrative responsibilities, Dr. Soroka is the Chair of the Institutional Review Board for the State College of Optometry. He is also a member of the Committee on Ethics and Values and the Committee of Professional Qualifications. In 2009 he received the State University of New York’s Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Service 2009 and the Communications Award from the New York State Optometric Association 2009 He has engaged extensively in conducting health services research and has been a consultant to business, government, and health care organizations. As the Executive Director of the Optometric Society of New York, the local affiliate of the New York State Optometric Association, Dr Soroka has been instrumental in organizing practicing optometrists within the metropolitan New York area as a political force. For the past thirty years he has been responsible for continuing education courses, workshops and seminars for all licensed optometrists in the metropolitan New York area, raising the level of competency of the state’s optometrists. He is the editor of New York Insights, a newsletter that is published monthly and distributed to New York City’s optometrists.
