Biographical Sketch: Dr. Janet B. Croft, PhD, chief of the Epidemiology and Surveillance Branch in the Division of Adult and Community Health, has been a chronic disease epidemiologist since 1991 at the CDC. She received a MPH in Maternal and Child Health at Tulane University and a PhD in Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a former Branch Chief of the Cardiovascular Health Branch at CDC, Dr. Croft provided oversight and participation into the initiation, development, and implementation of the State Cardiovascular Health Program (1999), the Paul Coverdell National Acute Stroke Registry (2001), and the State Cardiovascular Health Exam Survey (2005). In her current role since 2007, Dr. Croft has actively promoted national and state surveillance efforts and has increased public awareness in the areas of sleep health, mental health, adverse childhood experiences, binge drinking, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She has represented CDC on multiple national and federal inter-agency scientific workgroups. She has co-authored over 250 scientific reports and publications on the epidemiology of cardiovascular disease and emerging public health topics such as sleep health and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
