Biographical Sketch: Jeffrey Swanson is Professor in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University School of Medicine. He is a medical sociologist with expertise in psychiatric epidemiology and mental health law and policy studies. Swanson is a member of the Methods Core of the Public Health Law Research Program funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. His research interests include violence and severe mental illness, the impact of involuntary outpatient commitment law, and psychiatric advance directives.
