Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Byrne is a Research Associate Professor at the University of Miami in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health. Her research interests focus on patient decisions making. Currently her research includes studies of decision making in lung cancer screening and the effects of screening, including the psychological and quality of life effects of being screened. The other main area of decision making research that Dr. Byrne is undertaking concerns decisions about participation in cancer clinical trials. She is current funded through the Bankhead Coley Research Program to explore attitudes toward clinical trial by cancer patients. She recently received a GO (Grand Opportunity) grant through the ARRA mechanism to develop a decision aid to improve decision making concerning participation in cancer clinical trials.
