Biographical Sketch: James G. Hodge, Jr., J.D., LL.M. is the Lincoln Professor of Health Law and Ethics at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law; Director, Public Health Law and Policy Program; Fellow, Center for Law, Science, and Innovation, at Arizona State University. At ASU, Professor Hodge also directs the Western Region office of the Public Health Law Network funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Prior to joining ASU in August, 2009, he was a Professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health; Adjunct Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center; Executive Director of the Centers for Law and the Public’s Health: A Collaborative at Johns Hopkins and Georgetown Universities; and a Core Faculty member of the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics.
Through his scholarly and applied work, Professor Hodge delves into multiple areas of public health law, global health law, ethics, and human rights. The recipient of the 2006 Henrik L. Blum Award for Excellence in Health Policy from the American Public Health Association, he has drafted (with others) several public health law reform initiatives, including the Model State Public Health Information Privacy Act (MSPHPA), the Model State Emergency Health Powers Act (MSEHPA), the Turning Point Model State Public Health Act (Turning Point Act), and the Uniform Emergency Volunteer Health Practitioners Act (UEVHPA).
