Biographical Sketch: Mariano Kanamori is originally from Peru and has more than sixteen years of experience working in the areas of health, nutrition, micro-finance, family planning, tobacco, and HIV/AIDS in Peru, the US and Ethiopia. Winner of the Peruvian National Competition for young researchers organized by the Ford Foundation, the Cayetano Heredia University and the Canadian Government, he was given a fellowship to develop an adolescent social network model. In the US, he completed his pre-doctoral training at the Lombardi Cancer Control Center Georgetown Hospital in cancer prevention and control focused on Latinos. Mr. Kanamori is currently a PhD student in Epidemiology at the University of Maryland, School of Public Health. He is currently applying multilevel social network theoretical approaches for understanding how to best reintegrate Ethiopian orphans and vulnerable children due to HIV/AIDS to educational and quality of life opportunities as well as using a theoretical systematic approach to the planning and evaluation of health programs.
