Biographical Sketch: Cathy Kothari is a Senior Investigator in Maternal-Child Health at Michigan State University/Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies. She is the program evaluator for Kalamazoo County’s Healthy Babies-Healthy Start program; in that capacity is principal investigator on a county-wide retrospective chart review study examining the medical and psychosocial correlates of fetal and infant mortality in addition to several program-specific smaller studies. She is principal investigator on a series of prospective studies tracking the health and mental health of perinatal women, specifically in relation to their experiences of depression and domestic violence. Additionally, she is co-investigator and project director on an NIJ-funded study measuring the impact of victim participation in prosecution upon victims’ subsequent health and safety. She participates in several community and statewide collaboratives on issues of domestic violence, child abuse and neglect and maternal/infant support. She has 16 years of experience working in the court system as a Court Appointed Child Advocate and received the Court Appointed Child Advocate of the year award in 2000.
