Biographical Sketch: Sarah M. Mart, MS, MPH
Sarah Mart is Research & Policy Manager at Marin Institute, the alcohol industry watchdog. Her recent research includes alcohol promotion and related policies on Facebook; corporate alcohol’s exploitation of the small, family winery narrative in California; and the alcohol industry’s political influence, particularly regarding current threats to dismantle state control of alcohol sales.
Before joining Marin Institute in 2009, Ms. Mart directed prevention services at Syracuse University. She was director of health promotion & services at the University of San Francisco from 2004-2007. She directed the health enhancement department, taught health education courses and advised public health practicums at The University of Montana—Missoula from 1999-2004. At each of these institutions, she wrote and led funded projects to reduce high-risk drinking in college student populations. She served as an Associate Emeritus of the U.S. Department of Education’s Higher Education Center for Alcohol, Other Drug and Violence Prevention, and is a reviewer for the Journal of American College Health.
Ms. Mart received her bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from The University of Montana-Missoula, her master’s degree in Women’s Studies from Minnesota State University-Mankato, and her Master of Public Health from the University of Northern Colorado.
