Biographical Sketch:
Robert I. Field is professor of law at the Earle Mack School of Law and professor of health management and policy at the School of Public Health at Drexel University. He is also a senior fellow of the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania and a member of the adjunct faculty of the Wharton School. Dr. Field’s research has focused on a range of legal, ethical, and policy issues in health care regulation. He is the author of Health Care Regulation in America: Complexity, Confrontation and Compromise, a comprehensive overview of the regulation of the health care industry published by Oxford University Press. He received a Ph.D. in psychology from Boston University, a master’s in public health from the Harvard School of Public Health, a law degree from Columbia University, and an undergraduate degree from Harvard College. This presentation will review the history and enforcement of prohibitions on the promotion of drugs for off-label uses and will present proposals for alternative regulatory approaches.
