Biographical Sketch: Dr. Jaime Wilke Corvin is an Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida College of Public in the Department of Global Health. Trained in community and family health and social and behavioral sciences, Dr. Corvin's areas of research include chronic illness, global maternal and child health issues, and global health disparities. Dr. Corvin has conducted health disparities research in the US, Latin America and the Caribbean and has implemented health education campaigns and disease self management programs to help combat growing rates of diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. These community based initiatives often employ a Promotores or lay health educator approach. Through her work, Dr. Corvin also allows students to become active in these initiatives and they work directly with community members to plan and implement culturally sensitive and language appropriate services. Dr. Corvin is also a Certified MammaCare specialist and has also worked to train health professionals and community members in breast health and effective methods of breast exam.
