Biographical Sketch: Dr. Rahul Gupta is the Health Officer and Executive Director at Kanawha-Charleston Health Department and leads the largest local health department in the state of West Virginia. Dr. Gupta is also adjunct clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at West Virginia University School of Medicine and adjunct Associate Professor at University of Charleston's School of Pharmacy. He also serves as medical staff at Charleston Area Medical Center hospital and is a volunteer Physician at Health Right Clinic in Charleston.
Prior to joining KCHD, Dr. Gupta served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Meharry Medical College; and Clinical Assistant Professor at Vanderbilt University Medical School, both in Nashville, Tennessee.
Dr. Gupta earned Doctor of Medicine degree from University of Delhi and completed his internship and residency training at St. Joseph Hospital/Northwestern University in Chicago, Ill. Additionally, he has earned Master in Public Health in Healthcare Organization and Health Policy from the University of Alabama-Birmingham and is a recipient of fellowship from the American College of Physicians. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Gupta has worked with various healthcare organizations to develop, integrate and measure adherence to various public health initiatives including those for the underserved and indigent populations. Such initiatives are wide ranging from immunization initiatives to reducing heart diseases, stroke and pneumonia related morbidity and mortality. He is also instrumental in working with state partners to spearhead the various quality assurance initiatives in public health in the state.
Dr. Gupta has authored numerous publications in medicine and public health. He has also served as a principal investigator for numerous well known clinical trials. He currently serves on editorial boards and as a reviewer for several medical journals as well as on governing boards of several local, state and national organizations.
