Biographical Sketch: Damian Waters is a doctoral candidate in the Family Science department at the University of Maryland. His research interests center focus on African-American, low-income, and adolescent fathers. During his time at the University of Maryland, he has worked closely with Dr. Kevin Roy on projects examining the transition to fatherhood among low-income men, fathers’ nurturance of preschool children, as well as the educational trajectories of young men over the life-course. Currently, he is involved with the Fathers and Sons in Transition project led by Kevin Roy which seeks to understand how young men’s families, communities, and social connections shape their educational and work outcomes. In addition to his research involvement, Damian Waters is a licensed graduate marriage and family therapist and practices in the suburbs of Washington, DC.
