Biographical Sketch: Dr. Rizzo is an assistant professor completing a postdoctoral research fellowship with the AHS, Loma Linda University, California. His research focuses on the interaction between lifestyle factors and cardio-metabolic risk.
He obtained a Masters of Science degree from the Justus Liebig Universität in Gießen, Germany and a PhD in Medicine from Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden.
Dr. Rizzo was a recipient of the European Union Socrates/Erasmus Scholarship for studies conducted at Karolinska Institutet previous to his PhD studies.
His doctoral research focused on the associations between physical activity, cardio-respiratory fitness and metabolic risk factors.
Dr. Rizzo has authored several peer reviewed articles on lifestyle factors, metabolic syndrome and obesity in children and adults.
Currently Dr. Rizzo is lecturing Public Health Biology and Nutrition at Loma Linda University. He lectured at the Department of Bioscience and Nutrition and the Department of Medical Nutrition at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden and has been guest lecturer at the European CASCADE Network of Excellence.
Beside his academic appointments Dr. Rizzo has conducted prevention focused health seminars and interventions in Europe, Puerto Rico, Micronesia and in developing countries.
