Biographical Sketch: Rima Habib is an Associate Professor of environmental and occupational health in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the American University of Beirut. She holds a Master of Public Health, a Master of Occupational Health and Safety, and a Ph.D in Public Health and Community Medicine from the University of New South Wales. Her current research interest is mainly focused on environmental and work-related factors associated with health. She also assumes teaching responsibilities as an instructor on environmental and occupational health.
Rima Habib is committed to improving the working and living conditions of workers through collaborative efforts with worker communities that identify occupational needs and develop context appropriate solutions. Her work emphasizes the need for social justice as a fundamental aim and outcome for occupational health research.
She has consulted for International organizations and carried out a study for the International Labor Organization on the occupational health and safety situation in 18 Arab Countries.
Rima Habib is a member of several Academic and Professional Societies including the International Commission on Occupational Health, the International Society of Urban Health, the International Ergonomics Association, the Public Health Association of Australia, and the American Public Health Association. She currently assumes the position of Chair on the Technical Committee of Gender and Work at the International Ergonomics Association.
