She is the project director of the "Helping Older-Adults Maintain Independence" (HOME) Study, which examines how low-income older Californians with long-term care needs develop and sustain a network of care to remain safely in their own homes. Kathryn also directs two CDC-funded research projects concerned with increasing the uptake of clinical preventive services among older adults. In addition, she works on the California Health Interview Survey (CHIS) "Use and Impact Study," which investigates the utilization of health surveillance data and the scope of its influence on decision making among policy makers and program planners in California. Kathryn was a member of the inaugural class of Health and Aging Policy Fellows (2008-2010), a program funded by The Atlantic Philanthropies and administered through Columbia University. She conducted her Fellowship in the Office of United States Senator Debbie Stabenow where she worked on a broad array of health care reform initiatives. Kathryn earned her doctorate in social welfare from the UCLA School of Public Affairs in 2008.
