Biographical Sketch: Janet Place, MPH
Janet Place received her MPH in Health Behavior in 1986 from the University of California, Berkeley. She has worked in public health for over 25 years and has been with the NC Institute for Public Health at the Gillings School for Global Public Health for the past fifteen years, always involved in public health workforce development and public health practice. Prior to her work at UNC she held numerous positions in global and national health and community economic development. Her professional interests are in rural public health and workforce development. She is a graduate of both the National Public Health Leadership Institute and the Southeast Public Health Leadership Institute.
She is the Co-PI and director of the HRSA-funded Southeast Public Health Training Center, which facilitates public heath workforce development initiatives in NC and WV. The Southeast Public Health Training Center systematically assesses the emerging training needs of state and local health departments to better plan for, and deliver, competency-based training and education programs. She is the Co-Chair of the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice's Core Competency Workgroup and chaired the Tier 1 Competency Committee. She is currently overseeing the development of a "Competency to Practice Toolkit."
