Biographical Sketch:
Ms. Miller is an occupational health nurse and is the Child Labor Specialist for the Washington State Dept of Labor and Industries. In addition to research projects over the years, she works extensively on child labor regulations, policies and strategies to prevent occupational injuries to young workers. She is involved in extensive outreach and education to a range of groups including employers – agricultural and non-agricultural, worker organizations, school administrators and teachers, teens, healthcare providers and public health professionals. She has worked on a number of educational projects with the National Children's Center for Rural and Agricultural Health and Safety to develop training materials for supervisors of adolescent farmworkers. She has published a number of articles about injuries to youth and strategies for protecting them. She is the co-chair of the Young Worker Safety and Health Network, a national advocacy group. She recently worked at OSHA focusing on young worker issues. She is an active member of the American Public Health Association and was awarded the Occupational Health and Safety section’s Alice Hamilton lifetime achievement award in 2000.
