Biographical Sketch:
Kathleen Young, Health Sciences: Dr. Kathleen J. Young is an associate professor in the Health Education and Master’s of Public Health Program in the Department of Health Sciences at California State University, Northridge. Dr. Young is the CSUN Coordinator for COUGH-Northridge (Campuses Organized & Unified in Good Health) a CSU-statewide tobacco campus policy initiative; Dr. Young has also developed and coordinated university-community partnership service learning programs with over 30+ public health organizations and agencies throughout the San Fernando Valley within the greater Los Angeles area since her arrival in the fall of 2003. Dr. Young’s research interests include tobacco control policy and women’s health issues specifically in primary preventative strategies in breast cancer and women’s health screenings. Dr. Young is the recipient of the American Association of Health Education (AAHE) Delbert Oberteuffer National Scholarship (2000), University of New Mexico Teaching Assistant of The Year (2000), and the California State University, Northridge, “Distinguished Faculty Visionary Community Service-Learning (2007). Dr. Young has authored 8 book chapters and 6 articles in peer-reviewed professional journals and has presented 41 peer-reviewed papers at state and national conferences. Dr. Young is also on the Board of Director’s for the American Association for Health Education and recently completed her second master’s degree MPH in health policy and management in May of 2010 with a 4.0 GPA.
