Rothman is the Independence Foundation Professor of Urban Community Nursing in the Department of Nursing, College of Health Professions of Temple University, where she serves as Director of Community-based Practices. Her research focuses upon primary health care and community-defined health risks and prevention/intervention strategies. She serves as a consultant to the Philadelphia Health Management Corporation Nursing Network, a network of four primary care centers.
