Biographical Sketch: Dr. Pia Markkanen is a Research Professor in the Department of Work Environment at the University of Massachusetts Lowell and a co-investigator on a NIOSH-funded study called Safe Home Care Project which investigates a wide range of occupational safety and health (OSH) hazards and promising practices among home care aide occupations in Massachusetts. She has 19 years of professional OSH experience from her work in the US and earlier work at the International Labour Organization.
