Biographical Sketch:
Lina Vera-Cala is a PhD student in Population Health with an Epidemiology option. She holds a MD and a MS in Epidemiology from Universidad Industrial de Santander (Colombia). She is an assistant professor at the same university in Colombia. As a Colombian faculty, she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to pursue a PhD in Population Health at University of Wisconsin at Madison. Lina has been conducting epidemiologic research in public health and population health, particularly on health disparities with underserved populations both in Colombia and in the States. During the past 3 years, Lina has been working in research projects related to hypertension and breast and cervical cancer screening among the Latino population. After completing the PhD program, she would like to continue working on international health projects focused on improving the health of the Latino population.
