Biographical Sketch:
Kathryn J. Luchok, PhD—Director, South Carolina Access Initiative Kathryn J. Luchok is the director of the South Carolina Access Initiative, a project which seeks to expand access to all reproductive health services in South Carolina. She also holds an adjunct faculty position in the Department of Health Promotion, Education and Behavior in the University of South Carolina Arnold School of Public Health and is a USC Women and Gender Studies Affiliate. She has over 20 years of experience working in applied research, program planning, implementation and evaluation. Dr. Luchok’s specialty is women’s health and maternal and child health and she has conducted projects in the U.S. as well as in developing countries and published concerning women’s reproductive health, health disparities, health during pregnancy and the postpartum, and prematurity prevention. Long critical of the policies that undermine women’s decision-making about all aspects of reproduction across the life cycle, she has taught courses exploring these issues. Dr. Luchok received her Master’s in Anthropology and her Doctorate in Health Behavior and Education from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She believes women need more information to understand their bodies and their options in all areas of reproductive health care, and that access to affordable, accessible and culturally appropriate services are of paramount importance to best promote the health of women and the children they may bear.
