Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Abi Fapohunda is a Visiting Assistant professor in the Department of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences, Graduate School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research interests include African immigrants’ health issues, public health program evaluation, racial and ethnic health disparities, disparities in academic achievement among minorities, and holistic approach to solving behavioral health challenges among minorities. For more than 10 years as an independent consultant, she evaluated the effectiveness of several projects related to behavioral health challenge, health and nutrition, needs assessment for people living with HIV/AIDS in Southwestern Pennsylvania, disease risk factors, and prevention strategies in community-based programs. She has conducted health and nutrition training classes and workshops for diverse community-based programs in the Greater Pittsburgh community. Currently, she is involved in four community-based research/evaluation projects; West African Immigrant Study, Pennsylvania Public Health Training Center_Training Needs Assessment for Community-based Organizations, Behavioral Health Initiative focusing on mental health challenges, and disparities in academic achievement among minorities. Currently, she is a member of the Research Advisory Committee for the Center for Family Excellence’s Racial Achievement Gaps, an educational justice project.
