Biographical Sketch: Lisa Renee Holderby is a community health worker with almost 20 years experience working to improve health in Massachusetts. Ms. Holderby was recently appointed to the National Health Care Workforce Commission, created by the national health care reform law. She is employed by Community Catalyst, a national consumer health care advocacy organization based in Boston, as the Director of Health Equity. Before joining Community Catalyst she was the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Association of Community Health Workers (MACHW) and the first community health worker in the nation to be employed as a full time executive director of a statewide CHW association. Lisa Renee is passionate about promoting the integration of community health workers to improve access to health care and reduce health disparities. Ms Holderby is actively involved in the community health worker movement on local, state and national levels. She is a founding leader of the Massachusetts Association of Community Health Workers and has contributed greatly to the organization’s growth. Additional involvement in Massachusetts includes organizing CHWs, developing and conducting workshops for CHWs and CHW supervisors and educating all on the important role CHWs have to improve health in Massachusetts. Lisa Renee advocates for policy change to advance the field including drafting 2 pieces of CHW legislation in Massachusetts. Nationally, Lisa Renee is active in the American Public Health Association (APHA) Community Health Worker (CHW) Section. She is the CHW Section current chair and a three-term representative to the Governing Council. Ms. Holderby has served on several national advisory boards including the Center for Sustainable Health Outreach and Pfizer Health Solutions’ Amigos En Salud. Lisa Renee also served as the co-chair for the National CHW Workforce Study and has been an invited keynote speaker and presenter for several state and national conferences. Ms. Holderby was honored as the recipient of the American Public Health Association’s 2008 Helen Rodriguez-Trias Social Justice Award for her work to increase access to care and services though promotion of the CHW workforce.
