Biographical Sketch:
Cathy Keen Hughes received her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Public Health Nursing Option from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) College of Nursing in Memphis in May, 2010. Prior she received her Masters’ of Science in Community Health Nursing (MSN) and a Post Masters’ Certificate in Adult Health Nursing from the University of Southern Mississippi. Growing up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, she started early in her life with disaster preparedness. She has worked with adult medical-surgical patients and families in hospitals in New Orleans, Biloxi, and Hattiesburg, Mississippi as well as in the clinic and surgery settings in ophthalmology. Currently she is an instructor of Public Health Nursing at the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg campus. Her professional interests include activities which foster volunteerism, disaster preparedness, clinical simulation, oral histories, wound care, and Caribbean studies.
