Cancer Survivorship Research

Tuesday, November 5, 2013: 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM
Oral
There are nearly 14 million cancer survivors in the U.S. This session will examine several issues related to cancer survivorship such as: the use of mammography and breast ultrasound and impact on cancer recurrence, the unmet needs of cancer survivors, determinants of survivorship care utilization, biological pathways of adverse health outcomes among parents of children with cancer, and barriers related to the feasibility of implementing behavior change interventions in a clinical setting. The content of the session will be geared towards researchers and practitioners working in the area of cancer survivorship.
Session Objectives: Describe the use and impact of mammography and breast ultrasound with young breast cancer survivors. Discuss the unmet needs of short and long-term cancer survivors. Analyze the determinants of follow-up survivorship care utilization among young breast cancer survivors. Identify a potential biological pathway leading from caregiving for a child with cancer to adverse health outcomes in parents. Examine the feasibility of delivering dietary change behavioral interventions for cancer patients in a clinical setting.
