New Initiatives for Better Global Oral Health

The purpose of this panel is to present new initiatives for better global oral health initiated by the World Federation of Public Health Associations (WFPHA) and the Global Oral Health Interest Group of the Conference of Universities for Global Health. New initiatives in the Middle East and Indonesia will also be presented. The World Federation of Public Health Associations(WFPHA) represents 78 different countries and organizations involved in promoting public health globally. For the first time, they are making oral health a priority and this will be helpful on the local level and national level around the world, as will the oral health initiative of the Global Oral Health Interest Group of the Conference of Universities in Global Health.Through global networking and cooperation, internet use, practical and economical international communication, best practices are more readily shared and utilized internationally, nationally and locally.
Session Objectives: Identify and describe new initiatives in global oral health by the World Federation of Public Health Associations and the Global Oral Health Interest Group of the Conference of Universities for Global Health Describe and explain new initiatives in on-line communication in the Middle East and effective community prevention dental programs in Indonesia. Discuss how global networking and communication has helped raise oral health as a priority internationally Discuss and describe the global burden of oral disease and the challenges to meet these needs
