This session explores research methods and clinical interventions to protect the mental and physical health of female and male combat veterans and active duty personnel. Topics include addressing substance use and mental health, criminal justice, symptom self-management and training needs of providers who treat veterans and families.
Session Objectives: Identify gender differences in rates of substance use and related mental health symptoms among active duty military personnel. Describe how the public health approach of needs assessment can help to enhance mental and physical health providers' treatment of veterans and their family members. Name treatments and supports that result in positive outcomes for veterans with histories of trauma exposure.
