Accredited National Health Educaiton Certification: Quality Assurance in the Public Health Education Workforce

Establishing a system of quality assurance is a critical component of ensuring a competent public health education workforce prepared to address health improvement and disease prevention. The National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC) has developed voluntary health education certifications in alignment with national certification accreditation standards including a job analysis and recertification requirements. A recent advanced- level experience documentation process used by NCHEC and a government recognized health education certification exam introduced in 2010 in South Korea offer possible alternate means to evaluate competency on a global level. Efforts to advocate for health and health education can be enhanced by documented quality assurance efforts.
Session Objectives: Analyze lessons learned from geographically diverse certification organizations that can be used globally to ensure a competent health education workforce.
Discuss certification requirements of CHES and MCHES that have been developed to be in compliance with national certification accreditation standards.
Describe methods to advocate for health education.
