Breastfeeding: Associations with Child Health Outcomes From Birth to 6 Years of Age

Monday, November 4, 2013: 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM
Oral
This session addresses associations of breastfeeding with various child health outcomes from infancy through six years of age. Presenters provide results of studies exploring relationships of breastfeeding initiation, duration, and/or intensity with growth trajectory, children's eating behaviors, and infections. Data sources include two New York-based studies, and the CDC/FDA Infant Feeding Practices Study II Follow-up Study.
Session Objectives: Discuss the relationship between early-life risk factors and children's grown from birth to 2 years. Describe at least two child health outcomes associated with breastfeeding. Explain how maternal feeding styles related to milk feeding methods are associated with children's eating behaviors at six years of age.
