MEPS Web Based Tools Demonstration and Exercise

This proposed session will focus on the interactive data tools available on the MEPS website. The MEPSnet Query Tool and the Summary Data Tables will be introduced. A hands-on demonstration of the MEPSnet Query Tool will illustrate the selection of the appropriate data source (year), variables, record selection (population) and then apply the desired descriptive statistical tools to produce nationally or regionally representative estimates. The second part of the presentation will include a demonstration of the customizing process for the summary data tables available on the MEPS website. Open discussion for each step of the presentation will be encouraged.

Learning Objectives:
Identify the contents of the MEPS web site as it relates to MEPS online data tools. Demonstrate how to calculate health care expenditures for a given year and/or selected demographic characteristics using the MEPSnet Query or the Summary Data Table tools.
